My Choice

My decision of becoming an English teacher was quite interesting. To begin with, I never actually thought of becoming a teacher as a child. Although my friends used to say that they wanted to become teachers when they grow up so that they could have all those "interesting" things the teacher has, and they could "write on the board" all day long, since that is such a big deal for kids; I actually used to imagine myself as a dietitian. I guess I still have this interest in food and its constituents, and I really enjoy reading articles related to such a topic. Yet, what made me change my mind is that I was once asked to teach religion in a teacher's place 7 years ago, and I did. First I was nervous and kind of confused, not sure if I was ready for the job, but then after entering the class and observing a couple of sessions with her before she left, I really liked the idea. And after teaching for a month that summer, I started thinking of becoming a teacher.
Since that summer, I volunteer to teach religion every summer in my village, and I got more and more excited about teaching but I was not sure what subject to teach. In my 10th grade, I had an amazingly special English teacher, he was everyone's friend. I used to admire his personality and notice his teaching techniques. He was the reason behind my choice of becoming an English teacher. Mr. Samir used to give me a lot of positive feedback, praise my thoughts, and acknowledge my achievements and effort. After I met this teacher, I decided to become an English teacher as well, and this is the reason behind my choice of majoring in TESL.
